Class Contessa Quilt

Learning to quilt starts with piecing a top. As simple as that sounds, there's a lot to learn: maintaining a quarter-inch seam allowance, proper feeding of the fabric through the machine, and even ironing techniques. Join Jean to learn the basics of making your first quilt top using a free pattern from Moda, a roll of 2 1/2" fabric strips, and one more fabric for sashing.

The Contessa quilt looks like a challenge, but it's easier than you think!  Contessa uses strip piecing techniques with a jelly roll and one coordinating fabric to create blocks that are rotated before joining to create a basketweave effect. Confident beginner level.

In an effort to keep classes affordable, we ask that you purchase all supplies and materials from We're In Stitches.  Before purchasing materials, check to make sure that the class minimum of 3 students has been met. Students are eligible for a 10% discount on supplies purchased for class; online customers should make a note at checkout listing name of class and which items apply to have the discount applied manually.

Supplies needed:

One jelly roll of your choice

2 yards solid background fabric

Thread to match/complement your fabrics

6 1/2 x 24 1/2" rotary ruler required (6" is not wide enough)

Rotary cutter and mat

Travel iron and ironing mat

Sewing machine with foot pedal, power cord, and extra bobbins and needles

Basic notions: scissors, pins or clips, seam ripper, etc.

You may wish to bring a snack or lunch to eat during class.

Please park beside the building to leave space for customers out front.
